In March 2008, Mrs Chinnapen and Mr Kenny Venkatasen, residents of Silverglen, together with 16 other senior citizens met at Harmony Road Temple to start a senior citizens club for Silverglen residents. Kenny Venkatasen, who was elected the first Chairperson, injected a substantial amount of money into the Club.
In 2009, the Senior Citizen’s Club found a new home when the Civic Association allowed them free use of their hall. Today the Club boasts a membership of 95.
The Club meets every Wednesday between 9h00 and 13h00. The members are served breakfast and lunch. From time to time, the senior citizens are taken on organized tours. Some of the places visited are Cape Town, Pretoria, Badplaas, Swaziland, St Lucia, Margate, Wild Coast and Eastern Cape.
Through the efforts of Kenny Venkatasen and the late Vijay Sivakumoor (who provided the financial support), a fully equipped kitchen was constructed in 2019 with the permission of the Civic Association.
